RIVERVIEW CO-OP

PRESCHOOL

WELCOME TO RIVERVIEW CO-OP!

DEAR PARENTS,

Welcome to Riverview Co-op Preschool (a.k.a. Riverview Nursery, Inc.)!  This letter is to give you some details on a variety of topics regarding our school.  We hope you find the information helpful to you and your child.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

Each month you will receive a Calendar of Events along with the Wee Chatter Newsletter.  These will highlight our themes for the month and school activities to include Special Events, Field Trips, and Your Scheduled Classroom Work Days.  A daily lesson plan will be posted on the bulletin board in the preschool.  Your child’s birthday will be scheduled on the school day closest to his/her actual birth date.  It will be that parent’s responsibility to provide snack for the day.  (Parents of children with summer birthdays can celebrate them during the school year.  Please check with the Teacher and/or Scheduler.)

MAILBOX / COATS / BACKPACKS

Your child will have an assigned mailbox and coat/backpack hook.  Check your mailbox each time you enter the preschool and place your child’s coat/backpack on the designated hook.  We frequently have something to go home with your child, and whenever possible, we will put it in his/her backpack.  Dismissal goes more quickly and smoothly when items are in their correct places.  It is also helpful to label all items with your child’s name.

SCHOOL CLOTHING

Dress your child comfortably and casually for his/her school day.  We are very active and sometimes very messy.  Remember that we use Play dough, glue, markers, crayons, glitter and paint.  We cook, play in sand and water, and try to play outdoors in good weather.

EXTRA CLOTHES

Please bring an extra set of play clothes for your child during our first week of class.  This set should include a shirt, pair of pants, underwear and socks.  I would like you to put these items in a Ziploc bag, labeled with your child’s first and last name.  If your child has an accident and must be changed, he/she is much more comfortable having his/her own clothes.  *Please include a note that states that I am allowed to change your child.

BRINGING YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL

All children will be given the opportunity to have you at school with them.  We start the school year with our “Getting To Know You Day” …Parents are welcome to attend with their children and stay as long as they like for that day.  The 3-year-old’s schedule is from 9:20 a.m. to 11:20 a.m., while the 4-year-old children’s schedule is from 9:20 a.m. to 11:50 a.m.  It is very important that after your first day, you begin preparing your child for his/her “On My Own Day”.  Allow your child to become familiar with our procedure.  Let him/her know that you will have your special days at school with him/her.  I ask all parents to enter at the start of our school day and help your child with coats/backpacks, etc…Please give him/her a kiss and a hug near the door and leave.  Entering the classroom area to say goodbye disrupts the classroom environment.

WORKING PARENTS ROUTINE DURING CLASS

Working parents are to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to class start time in order to help prepare for the day’s activities.  During class, especially during teacher directed activities (like circle time), please keep your talking to a minimum.  It is very distracting and does not model appropriate listening behavior.  Your job responsibilities are posted on the supply closet door of the preschool and differ depending if you are A, B or C parent.  If unsure of your duties, please check with the teacher or another parent.  Cleaning should be done after class, unless otherwise directed by the teacher.  Please expect to stay approximately 15 minutes after class to help clean up.  (Your child may read or play quietly while you are setting up and cleaning up.)

DISMISSAL

Your child will be ready to leave when you arrive at the preschool.  (11:20 a.m. for the 3-year-olds and 11:50 a.m. for the 4-year-olds.)  Please be punctual.  If an emergency occurs and you will not be on time, please phone the school at 734-284-1966.  Also, it is extremely important that any other person to whom your child may be released is listed on your emergency card.  Make sure that person has a picture I.D. with him/her when he/she picks up your child.

FIELD TRIPS

Field trips are parent and child special events.  They will be listed on your monthly calendar.  Transportation is each individual parent’s responsibility.  Other arrangements may be made for your child to attend.  If this situation occurs, it is the responsibility of the parent to contact your Field Trip Coordinator to inform him/her of the arrangements made, prior to the event.

CLASSROOM RULES

Please discuss the classroom rules with your child before our first day of school.  They are posted in our room and will be referred to often throughout the school year.

                GIVE ME FIVE

  1. Be Respectful.  (Be kind to others.)
  2. Be a Friend to Everyone.  (We will feel good about ourselves.)
  3. Always Use Your Words.  (Others need to know how you feel or what you are asking.)
  4. Respect All Property.  (By taking care of things in our classroom {putting things away after you have used them}, they will be there the next time you want them.)
  5. Have Fun at School!

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask.  Thank you.  I look forward to a wonderful year.
